What's Inside a Natural Bath Bomb? A Guide to Clean, Skin-Loving Ingredients

What Makes a Bath Bomb "Natural"?
Walk down any beauty aisle and you'll find bath bombs in every color and scent imaginable. But what's actually inside them? Many conventional bath bombs contain synthetic dyes, artificial fragrances, and harsh preservatives that can irritate sensitive skin.
A truly natural bath bomb uses ingredients that are gentle, effective, and recognizable. Here's what you'll find in ours — and why each one earns its place.
Epsom Salt (Magnesium Sulfate)
Epsom salt is the workhorse of a great bath bomb. It's not actually a salt — it's a naturally occurring mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate. When dissolved in warm water, it:
- Helps relax tense, sore muscles
- Supports magnesium absorption through the skin
- Draws out toxins and reduces inflammation
- Softens skin and soothes irritation
All of our bath bombs — including the Serenity and Calm Lavender varieties — are made with Epsom salt for this reason.
Baking Soda (Sodium Bicarbonate)
Baking soda is what gives a bath bomb its signature fizz when it hits the water. Beyond the satisfying reaction, it also:
- Softens hard water, making it gentler on skin
- Balances the skin's pH
- Leaves skin feeling silky smooth
Citric Acid
The other half of the fizzing equation. Citric acid reacts with baking soda in water to release carbon dioxide — that beautiful, effervescent fizz. It also acts as a mild exfoliant and helps brighten skin tone over time.
Essential Oils
This is where the sensory magic happens. Essential oils provide natural fragrance and therapeutic benefits. In our bath bombs, you'll find blends chosen for their calming and restorative properties:
- Lavender — calming, sleep-supporting, and anti-inflammatory
- Sandalwood — grounding, warm, and deeply relaxing
- Citrus — uplifting and energizing, perfect for a morning soak
Skin-Nourishing Oils
Natural bath bombs often include carrier oils like coconut oil, sweet almond oil, or jojoba oil. These leave a light, moisturizing film on the skin as you soak — so you step out feeling soft without needing to immediately reach for a lotion.
That said, we always recommend following your bath with a layer of whipped body cream or body oil to seal in that post-bath glow.
What You Won't Find in Ours
No synthetic dyes. No artificial fragrances. No parabens or sulfates. Just clean, purposeful ingredients that work with your skin — not against it.
